The plateau is home to West Africa’s only population of klipspringer (Oreotragus oreotragus porteousi), as well as several endemic birds and mammals, including Nigerian mole rat (Cryptomys foxi) and Fox's shaggy rat (Dasymys foxi) the rock firefinch (Lagonosticta sanguinodorsalis) and the Jos Plateau indigobird (Vidua maryae).
