Lying south of Lunga with its sister island of Bac Mor, it forms the south western end of the island chain.

Beag simply means small (as opposed to Bac Mòr, its larger sister), but Bac can mean a "bank", or also an "obstacle" or "hindrance".

Behind are the low flat island of Fladda and the tallest island, Lunga, which obscures Bac Mòr and Bac Beag beyond.
