John Goss won the race driving a Matich A53 Repco-Holden, and in doing so became the only driver to win both of Australia's highest profile motor races, the AGP and the Bathurst 1000.
Teams were also allowed to use the session to test their co-drivers who will step into the teams for the Phillip Island 500 and Bathurst 1000 races later in the season which require two drivers per car.
Despite many other makes also tasting success at "The Mountain" such as Morris, Jaguar, BMW, Nissan and Volvo, none were eligible to compete in the Bathurst 1000 from 1999 to 2012.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Doug was part of the Channel Seven Australian Touring Car Championship and Bathurst 1000 commentary team headed up by Mike Raymond and Neil Crompton until Seven lost the rights in 1997.
Coad's career was highlighted by taking victory in the original 1960 Armstrong 500 (known later as the Bathurst 1000), co-driving a Vauxhall Cresta with John Roxburgh.
He had many solid results throughout the season, including a fourth at the one-off Chinese round at the Shanghai International Circuit, a third at the Sandown 500 and most notably, second at the Bathurst 1000 endurance events with team-mate Jason Richards after leading late in the race.
