In 2000, DeBartolo York and her husband gained control of the 49ers and other sporting assets from her brother, Edward J. DeBartolo Jr. She and her husband have since given over control of the 49ers to their son Jed York.
Muransky testified under a grant of immunity as a government witness in the March 2000 trial of Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards, mainly about what DeBartolo had confided to Muransky.
In 2008, DeBartolo was inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame, the first person to receive this honor who did not coach or compete in a professional sport.
York left academia to establish DeYor Laboratories in Boardman, Ohio, a partnership with his father-in-law, Edward J. DeBartolo Sr.
The mall's architect, Frank DeBartolo (Edward's younger brother), opened the mall with actress Dina Merrill in 1976.
