Famed during his lifetime for his illuminations, he was also an industrious printer and published a number of the works of Erhard Etzlaub.
Many of his engravings, especially the cards, contain compositional elements that also occur in the miniatures of the Giant Bible of Mainz of 1452-3 and other illuminations made in Mainz between then and 1482, including at least one illuminated copy of the Gutenberg Bible, the copy now in Princeton University library.
In 1436 Lamy completed a Nativity scene for the frontispiece of a Gospel book commissioned by Pietro Donato; the rest of the illuminations in this work were done by Johannes de Monterchio.
However Janet Backhouse has suggested that the manuscript was originally a product of the reign of Edward IV, with the decoration left incomplete on his death, and then with illuminations added around 1500, presumably under Poulet's supervision.
During his years as a graduate student, he wrote serial and non-twelve-tone works, such as the a cappella choral works "Dylan Thomas Settings" and "Illuminations" (Rimbaud), and throughout the remainder of the 1970s most of his works were twelve-tone.
