Untitled (Ochún) (1981), named for the Santería goddess of waters, once pointed southward from the shore at Key Biscayne, Florida.
The venue, located just south of Downtown Miami, was revered for its scenic views of Downtown and Miami Beach, hosting motorboat events, and events featuring the likes of Mitch Miller, Sammy Davis, Jr., and U.S. President Richard Nixon (whose seasonal winter residence, dubbed "the Florida White House," was on nearby Key Biscayne).
Over time, a growing number of physicians signed on to the idea, and the society was formally founded at a meeting held in Key Biscayne, Florida in January 1969 under the chairmanship of George C. Lewis, Jr., MD.
Between these two extremes is March 30, date of the Key Biscayne, Florida meeting of John Mitchell, Jeb Magruder, and Fred LaRue.
