Located on the South shore of Lake Managua, it is 15 kilometers Northwest of Managua, the capital, and consequently a popular destination for visitors from the city.
South-east of Lake Managua lie Chiltepe, the Nejapa alignment, Masaya, Apoyo and Mombacho which overlie the Las Sierras ignimbrites, erupted from the Las Sierras Caldera surrounding Masaya volcano.
