Triton as the yacht was originally named, was built at Troon on the Firth of Clyde, by the Ailsa Shipyard.

Following his death, she was purchased in 1913 by Sir George Bullough, owner of the Scottish island of Rùm.
In 1913, he purchased a 1902 steel yacht, also named Rhouma, which was hired to the Royal Navy as an auxiliary patrol yacht during World War I.
