Bwalya was born in Mufulira to Benjamin Bwalya Sr and Elidah Bwalya and when the family moved to Ndola he went to Kansenshi Primary School from 1968 to 1974.
After service as a priest in Northern Zambia he was appointed Dean of Mufulira Cathedral.
