4 unusual facts about PNA

Bardala

During the Al-Aqsa Intifada, the residents of Bardala stopped paying both water and electricity bills to the PNA, and, as a consequence the Palestinian authorities have delayed implementing infrastructural works, such as a dam and a water network for the village.

Jamil Othman Nasser

A position he held until January 1996, when late President Yasser Arafat, President of the Palestinian National Authority, appointed him as Governor of Jerusalem, the first governor to be appointed by the PNA and the first governor of Jerusalem since the Israeli occupation in 1967.

In 1994, he was appointed as the first Director General of the Ministry of Interior in the first government formed by the PNA.

Palestinian political violence

In 1987, a mass revolt, of predominantly civil resistance, called the First Intifada, exploded, leading to the Madrid Conference of 1991, and subsequently to the Oslo I Accord, which produced an interim understanding allowing a new Palestinian authority, the PNA to exercise limited autonomy in 3% (later 17%) of the West Bank, and parts of the Gaza Strip not used or earmarked for Israeli settlement.

He has developed novel DNA-binding ligands, such as bis-intercalating compounds and peptide nucleic acids (PNA), and demonstrated DNA-ligand reorganisations between groove-binding and intercalation binding geometries involving extreme activation energies and recognition due to kinetic (in contrast to thermodynamic) selection.

Yasser Abed Rabbo

Women's rights activist Zahira Kamal had been chosen in an internal election to replace him as minister in the government of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), but Abed Rabbo refused to step down, and instead left the party.
